Responsibilities

  • Lead the teams responsible for Reliability, Maintainability & Safety (RMAS), Electronic Equipment Design Assurance (EEDA) and development (Core DA) & Process Assurance (PA) in their day-to-day operations supporting the Aircraft Heads of Design.
  • Lead the establishment, documenting and maintenance of best practices associated with Aircraft Development Assurance Processes to ensure a harmonized approach is applied on all platforms and lessons learned are implemented to support subsequent projects.
  • Lead recurring training programs to support the development and competency of integrators, architects, process assurance and DAO personnel with respect to Development Assurance processes (AWM525.1309/ARP4754/ARP4761/DO-178B/DO-254).
  • Ensure Process Assurance Audit plans and checklists are established to efficiently identify any potential process gaps at appropriate phases of development and work with Heads of Design to prioritize and address process assurance related concerns.
  • Support the Transport Canada certification focals and Authorized Persons for RMAS, PA and EEDA with escalations related to development assurance process adherence, conformance with accepted guidance and facilitate alignment with Transport Canada and the Heads of Design on action plans to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Support the Core ACC and participate as a member of the DAO Executive representing the critical role of Aircraft Development Assurance in aircraft certification specifically DAO findings of compliance to AWM525.1309.
  • Support the RMAS, PA and EDA teams with foreign authority technical familiarizations, audits and queries.
  • Identify and support focals to represent Bombardier in industry and government working groups and committees.
  • Develop a strategic roadmap for implementation of evolving guidance on legacy platforms.
  • Responsible for all the functional activities and reporting within the department (e.g. Knowledge Domains, Critical Skills Review, Critical Knowledge Level, conferences, etc …) and execute the yearly BMs roadmap
  • Manage recruitment and staffing requirements, including ODC contribution
  • Manage / Develop the specialist teams, including DAD / Leader succession plan
  • Plan, support and be responsible for the contribution to the R&T projects where the department teams are involved (especially EEDA, RM&S)
  • Support and participate to various Supplier/Bombardier meetings through the R&T umbrella e.g. Tech Days, Supplier visits, ….
  • Point of escalation to senior leadership for team internal and cross business roadbloack
  • Support team and projects with Supplier compliance to process assurance

Technical Competency

  • Validates technical processes & Knowledge Standards meet Best Practice
  • Research technical developments in the industry to remain aware of evolving tools and/or guidance that may impact and improve the effectiveness of our processes
  • Consolidate expert input and share Industry and Regulatory Developments at company level
  • Support multi-disciplinary, supplier, and authority alignment for Development Assurance topics in support of Certification Programs
  • Impacts other Functional Units strategic directions/vision
  • Proposes new work processes and/or technical innovations
  • Initiative and judgement recognizing implications of process gaps/deviations and the impact versus the phase of development/certification
  • Devises new approaches applying existing criteria in novel ways to improve efficiency
  • Participates in deep-dive and provides specialized advice for solving broad technical problems, utilizing the Problem Solving Methodology
  • Functions as a final technical authority/advisor
  • Provides technical leadership, coaching, mentoring and training to teams of professionals and technologists

How to thrive in this role?

  • You hold a Bachelor or Master’s degree in Engineering. May have a PHD related directly to a field of expertise
  • You have over 15 year or more of relevant experience in a specific aerospace engineering field
  • You have an advanced understanding of the regulatory framework within which Transport Canada, FAA and EASA operate
  • You have knowledge of the type certification process, the corrective action process, and the procedures of the Design Approval Organization
  • You have strong knowledge of complex systems development process methodologies and associated practices (ex: ARP4754, ARP4761)
  • You have a strong knowledge of software and complex hardware development process methodologies and associated practices as they apply to aviation
  • You are highly recommended, with an international reputation
  • You may perform as a regulatory authority delegate in the field of expertise You have 8 or more years of experience in a leadership position
