Overview
Director of Instruction: Indigenous Education – The Sea to Sky School District serves the vibrant communities of Squamish, Whistler, Pemberton, and the surrounding areas on the unceded traditional territories of the Skwxwú7mesh Uxwumixw and St'at'imc people, including the Lil’wat, N’quatqua, and Samahquam First Nations. The Opportunity We are seeking an experienced and visionary educational leader to join our senior leadership team as Director of Instruction: Indigenous Education. This role is pivotal in advancing Indigenous education and ensuring the integration of Indigenous ways of knowing, teaching, and learning for all learners across the district. Reporting to the Superintendent, the Director of Instruction – Indigenous Education provides district-wide leadership in Indigenous education, equity initiatives, community engagement, and the embedding of Indigenous perspectives into all aspects of teaching and learning. In addition to the Indigenous Education portfolio, this role will include other district-level portfolio responsibilities, which will be determined based on district needs and your strengths as a leader.
Key Responsibilities
- Champion Indigenous education and integrate Indigenous perspectives into curriculum, instruction, and assessment for all learners, with a focus on improving the academic success of students of Indigenous ancestry
- Build and sustain respectful, trusting relationships with Indigenous communities, and local First Nations partners
- Lead and monitor the implementation of Protocol and Local Education Agreements with their respective Nations
- Support the Indigenous Education Council and serve as secretariat
- Collaborate with Principals, Vice Principals, teachers, and district staff to ensure culturally responsive learning environments
- Support and guide Indigenous Support Workers, Shared Learnings teachers, and Instructional Leadership Team representatives
- Champion equity-focused practices that address barriers to learning and promote student well-being
- Provide district leadership on Indigenous language and culture programs
- Collaborate with external partners, agencies, and municipalities to support Indigenous education goals
- Provide effective leadership in other portfolios as assigned
- Contribute to district planning, budgeting, and leadership initiatives as a member of the Senior Instructional Team and Administrative Council
Qualifications & Experience
- Master’s Degree in Education
- BC Professional Teaching Certificate
- Minimum of five years of successful school or district-level leadership, preferably in BC public schools
- Demonstrated expertise in Indigenous education, including histories, cultures, languages, and community contexts
- Proven ability to lead system-wide change through collaboration, relationship-building, and data-informed decision making
- Experience in a unionized environment, supervising and supporting staff
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
- Commitment to embedding Indigenous ways of knowing, teaching, and learning across all curricula to support the success of all students

Salary range: $173,058.00 to $188,107.00 per year.
