Machine Shop Supervisor

Job Description

Department: Machine Shop.<br>Reports to: Operations Manager.<br>Location: Metal Business Unit.<br>Pay Rule: Hourly.
 
Job Summary:
Provide supervision and leadership to Holder Department employees.
 
Key Responsibilities:<ul><li>Enforce safety requirements and maintain a hygienic work environment.</li><li>Ensure that all quality requirements are met.</li><li>Communicate with relevant other departments to ensure on-time production schedule fulfillment.</li><li>Manage given department production requirements by setting priorities, coordinating resources.</li><li>Determine and manage subcontract machining needs.</li><li>Work with maintenance to ensure equipment uptime and reliability.</li><li>Train, develop, and coach all holder department employees with essential skills.</li><li>Solve problems and identify opportunities for improvement.</li><li>Manage department tooling and consumable supplies, interact with vendors.</li><li>Provide machining time estimates for new products to sales.</li><li>Comply with company policies and procedures.</li><li>Must be available to work overtime.</li><li>Will be required to support after-hours emergency orders when required.</li><li>Perform additional responsibilities as required.</li></ul>
<br>Requirements:<ul><li>A college diploma in machining and/or 429A Certificate of Qualification is preferred.</li><li>4+ years of experience in a machining environment.</li><li>Experience with manual mills, engine lathes, saws, and associated tooling.</li><li>Experience with CNC mills and lathes and associated tooling.</li><li>Proficient with using a PC.</li><li>Experience with Microsoft Office is an asset.</li><li>Experience with Microsoft Navision Dynamics or other ERP systems is an asset.</li><li>Strong time management and decision skills.</li><li>Strong effective communication skills.</li><li>Able to learn quickly and work independently.</li></ul>
<br>Working Conditions:
Exposure to a manufacturing environment, which may include loud noise, dust, and varying temperatures
 
Physical Requirements:<ul><li>PPEs: Steel toe shoes, ear plugs, safety glasses, cut gloves.</li><li>Walking 2+ hours.</li><li>Standing 5+ hours.</li><li>Sitting 2+ hours.</li><li>Lifting 25+ lbs.</li><li>Stair climbing Occasional.</li><li>Ladder Climbing Occasional.</li><li>Travel to work Ability to drive a car or use public transit.</li><li>Bending and Twisting Full torso and upper body repetitive movement.</li><li>Dexterity Must have use of both hands (gripping, pinching, and fine work).</li><li>Push/Pull +20 lbs.</li><li>Vibration hand, arms shoulders / upper body (Deburr, pedestal grinder).</li><li>Vision Full & clear.<br><br></li></ul>
