Title: Manufacturing Engineering Manager

Reports To: Lead Technical Operations Manager

Location: 24 Napoleon Road, Barrie

Job Purpose: The Manufacturing Engineering Manager is responsible for implementing and improving the manufacturing equipment and processes required to manufacture a high-quality product in a repeatable and cost-effective manner. The incumbent is responsible for all associated metrics management, leadership, strategic development and execution, process development, LEAN initiatives, product support and new process development qualification.

Responsibilities

  • Drive improvements in all related processes, including those related to products, equipment, human interface, and product quality. Support Quality, Maintenance and Manufacturing departments in the root cause analysis and corrective action process to strive for world class quality status. Work closely with production and support teams as required.
  • Responsible for implementing and maintaining world class Lean, TPM, quality processes and other manufacturing methodologies and systems for current production as well as new product launches.
  • Direct and support Manufacturing Engineering staff to ensure all product launches are successfully developed and implemented on time and budget, meeting all Napoleon's stage gate requirements.
  • Support the Operations team in the creation of annual business and strategic plans to ensure successful growth and profitability for the company. Ensure that all responsibilities related to said plans are implemented on time as required.
  • Strategize, optimize, and implement plant layouts changes for the purpose of improving material flow, space requirements and productivity improvements.
  • Ensure new equipment and systems adhere to safety requirements as well as Local, Provincial and Federal industry regulations.
  • Interface with multiple functions and departments within the company and with people at all levels of management and technical ability.
  • Implement strategic plans for hiring, training, and developing Associates as required.
  • Create, implement, and maintain necessary departmental and manufacturing engineering related procedures to ensure all ISO requirements are met.
  • Ensure all tasks for engineering changes for the department are completed effectively and on time. Provides relevant input and support to the decision-making process in support of the Napoleon Engineering Change Notice (CN) process.
  • Lead Manufacturing Engineering and production related innovations and R&D efforts, including tracking and reporting on R&D tax credit submissions.
  • Drive continuous improvements by reducing labour costs and waste reduction, improving production efficiency, health and safety and operational improvement.
  • Responsible for developing long term strategic plans for the ME group including participating in capacity analysis/ budget preparation to prepare for future business growth including equipment and resources.
  • Actively work to build relationships with other departments (Quality / Maintenance/ Operations) ensure the ME team is actively servicing the needs of each group and the output goals of the organization.
  • Familiarity with facility engineering principles, sheet metal fabrication, and stamping processes.
  • Establishing strong working relationships with contractors, and vendors of various disciplines

Education & Experience

  • University degree in Industrial, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • 5 years' experience preferred coupled with a minimum of 3 years leadership experience. Automation experience preferred.
  • P. Eng. designation preferred, eligibility for registration an asset, or Six Sigma Master Black Belt.
  • Proficient with Microsoft products. Solidworks preferred.
  • Experience with CNC machinery, stamping equipment, process improvement, equipment procurement, Lean, Kaizen, Kanban 5S tools and concepts.
