Job Description
<p>The Project Manager (“PM”) role represents a critical core competence that has high impact on the success of Fermar Paving Ltd. (“the Company”) operations. The incumbent is accountable for the successful completion of all assigned Projects. The PM is in “the driver’s seat” managing multiple projects for MTO, Rail, Paving and Municipalities with budgets up to $80M.</p><p>The PM is the subject matter expert for the management of Company Projects. The role is accountable for decision-making to ensure the effective planning and utilization of material and human resources; and communication and coordination with other managers and with Customers or their agents.</p><p>The role is the key contact for reviewing and resolving issues and concerns with assigned Project performance, P&L, Sub-contractors, Suppliers, A/R (invoicing), and Claims.</p><h3>KEY RESPONSIBILITIES</h3><h3>Leadership Oversight</h3><ul><li>Accountable for ensuring all assigned Projects are efficiently and profitably managed and completed.</li><li>Provides leadership of Project Management disciplines for assigned Projects.</li><li>Builds and maintains strong working relationships with Owners and Sub-contractors.</li><li>Mentor and support Jr. Project Managers, Site Superintendents and Field Engineers involved in the assigned Projects.</li><li>Ensures Company safe operating procedures are being followed for all Project work.</li><li>Visibly champions the Company’s Safety in the Workplace programs, with a focus on achieving zero accidents/incidents as well as maintaining COR certification.</li><li>Has signing authority with full P & L responsibilities for assigned Projects.</li><li>Accountable for Scheduling and Pricing of all assigned Projects.</li><li>Resolves Customer and Sub-contractor disputes as expeditiously as possible.</li><li>Reviews P & L status and cash flow forecasts for Projects, and adjusts as appropriate.</li><li>Ensures progress billing is accurate and complete, and submitted on time.</li><li>Keeps all stakeholders advised on status, progress, and issues.</li><li>Analyzes budget and pricing and provides feedback to Estimating department.</li></ul><h3>Operating</h3><ul><li>Develops standards, processes, controls, and measurements for Projects that will ensure consistency and superior results.</li><li>Monitors progress of work completed against schedules and takes actions as appropriate to ensure on-time completion of projects.</li><li>Prepares Progress Certificates and ensure invoicing is timely.</li><li>Quality and quantity bi-weekly forecasting.</li><li>Presents Project Close Out summaries, informing Management of financial results, deficiencies and opportunities.</li></ul><h3>EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE</h3><ul><li>College Diploma (Civil Engineering Technician) or Business Administration</li><li>PMP designation or in progress.</li><li>Gold Seal certification.</li><li>P. Eng. an asset.</li><li>3 to 5 years’ experience in Project Management within the Construction Industry.</li></ul><h3>Demonstrated Management and Personal Skills</h3><ul><li>High level of personal stress management. Ability to retain focus while addressing challenges, and prioritize conflicting demands.</li><li>Problem Solving, Critical Thinking and Influencing skills. Some exposure to disagreeable conditions (work sites).</p><h3>Physical Demands</h3><p>Moderate. Walking, sitting, lifting less than 5lbs occasionally. Consistent computer/laptop exposure.</p><h3>Mental Effort</h3><p>Moderate to High intensity.
