Our work involves tackling a diverse set of technical challenges, with a primary focus on extracting structured data from complex healthcare policy documents. We are committed to building high-quality, impactful products that drive value across the organization. <br /></p><p><strong>Position Summary<br /></strong></p><p>We are seeking a self-motivated, results-oriented candidate with a passion for tackling complex challenges in document understanding. This role centers on developing and applying advanced AI technologies to parse PDFs, extract structured data from unstructured healthcare policy documents, and deliver scalable, high-performance solutions. Ideal candidates will thrive in collaborative environments, ask thoughtful questions, and embrace experimentation to drive innovation in document data extraction. <br /></p><p><strong>Role & Responsibilities<br /></strong></p><ul><li>Follow software development best practices: write clean, well-tested code; conduct code reviews; perform testing; manage deployments, etc. </li><li>Maintain and improve document parsing pipelines, including proactive issue investigation and identifying opportunities for enhancement. </li><li>Implement or enhance solutions that support long-term maintainability and ongoing flexibility. </li><li>Collaborate closely and professionally with stakeholders to gather and clarify requirements, and with internal Engineering teams to design and implement solutions to business problems. Reach out quickly when blocked so that we can work together to remove obstacles. </li><li>Provide accurate time estimates, adhere to project timelines, and consistently deliver on schedule.<strong></strong></li></ul><p><strong>Skills & Qualifications<br /></strong></p><p>Must have: </p><ul><li>3+ years of software development experience ideally focused on data processing pipelines.</li><li>1+ years of experience turning ML/NLP/AI models into production-ready backend services.</li><li>Experience in document understanding, PDF parsing, or similar related document data extraction technologies.</li><li>Bachelor’s degree in computer <span >science/engineering</span> discipline or equivalent experience. </li><li>Strong programming skills in Python. </li><li>Excellent debugging, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills. </li><li>Know how to structure applications for long term maintenance and ongoing flexibility, familiar with SOLID design principles. </li><li>Great communication skills (written and verbal) and a quick learner.</li><li>Experience with containerization (Docker) and cloud storage (AWS S3). </li></ul><p>Nice to have: </p><ul><li>Database experience such as SQL query, PostgreSQL, etc. </li><li>Experience working with PDF tabular data. </li><li>Experience working with comprehensive cloud technologies (e.g. AWS Lambda, ECS, SQS, etc). </li><li>Knowledge of the medical insurance industry and the ability to speak directly to medical<strong> </strong>professionals.</li></ul><p><strong><strong>Contract Information</strong></strong></p><p><strong><strong></strong></strong>This is a remote, 40 hour per week, contract-based engagement with Policy Reporter, offered under an Independent Contractor Agreement. </p><p><strong>Policy Reporter’s Core Values</strong></p><ul><li><strong></strong>Excellence</li><li>Value & Respect</li><li>Continuous Learning</li><li>Ownership & Accountability</li><li>Teamwork </li></ul><p><em>Policy Reporter is committed to Employment Equity.
