Reports To: Operations Manager

Role Overview:

This role is being developed to support U.S. CBP operations, with a primary focus on ensuring compliance with CBP requirements for baggage handling. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, BIWIS scanning, transferring baggage to meet TSA screening requirements, and supporting contingency plans to maintain business continuity. The Baggage Service Attendant (BSA) is responsible for providing safe, efficient, and customer-focused baggage handling support throughout the airport baggage system. This role is passenger-facing and operationally critical, supporting both normal and contingency baggage operations. The attendant will interact with passengers, airline representatives, and airport operations to ensure timely baggage flow, issue resolution, and service recovery.



Key Responsibilities:

Passenger-Facing Services

  • Assist passengers at the oversize BIWIS baggage area, including, lifting, and handling items such as strollers, sports equipment, musical instruments, and other non-standard baggage.
  • Provide clear, courteous communication to passengers regarding and/or special handling procedures.
  • Support baggage system contingency plans in coordination with airlines when necessary.

Baggage Handling Duties

  • Lift, move, and position baggage within the baggage handling system, when necessary.
  • Transport baggage within the baggage handling system, bag room, and designated transfer areas.
  • Transport connecting bags to ensure timely transfers between flights.

BIWIS & System Operations

  • Scan baggage at BIWIS baggage drop points and other designated scanning checkpoints.
  • Assist when necessary to resolve baggage jams or stoppages in accordance with standard operating procedures.
  • Escalate system issues to baggage system maintenance and Nieuport Operations, when required.

Contingency & Irregular Operations Support

  • Support baggage contingency plans, including irregular operations (IROPs), system outages, and peak volume periods.
  • Adjust duties and priorities based on real-time operational needs.

Key Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and maneuver baggage (typically up to 5070 lbs, as required).
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and work in a fast-paced environment for extended periods.
  • Capability to work in confined spaces, bag rooms, and around moving equipment.
  • Adhere to all airport, TSA, CATSA, airline, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain situational awareness in sterile, airside, and baggage handling environments.
  • Report hazards, incidents, or injuries in accordance with established protocols.
  • Perform additional baggage-related duties as assigned to support airport operations.
  • Adjust work assignments, locations, and schedules based on passenger demand, flight activity, and operational constraints.
  • Support cross-functional teams during peak periods or IROP situations.
  • Deliver professional, courteous passenger service at all times.
  • Maintain accurate scanning and handling of baggage to support tracking and accountability.
  • Demonstrate adaptability, teamwork, and situational awareness in a dynamic airport environment.
