Bar Manager - Mati (Ottawa)

Mati is seeking an experienced, driven, and hospitality-focused Bar Manager to lead our bar program and elevate the guest experience. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing all bar operations, mentoring the bar team, and shaping an innovative, profitable, and brand-aligned beverage program. You will be both a leader behind the scenes and a confident presence on the floor, setting the tone for service excellence.

This position is ideal for someone who combines operational expertise with creativity, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to hospitality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, train, and inspire the bartending and barback team to deliver exceptional, consistent service.
  • Oversee daily bar operations including opening, closing, prep, and execution during service.
  • Develop, maintain, and evolve Mati's cocktail, wine, and spirits program in alignment with our concept and seasonal offerings.
  • Manage inventory, ordering, and vendor relationships while controlling cost of goods and minimizing waste.
  • Ensure all bar areas are organized, stocked, and maintained to the highest cleanliness and safety standards.
  • Monitor staff performance, provide ongoing coaching, and support scheduling needs in collaboration with management.
  • Engage with guests at the bar and on the floor to enhance their experience and build regular clientele.
  • Resolve guest concerns professionally, turning challenges into memorable recovery moments.
  • Ensure compliance with Smart Serve, health and safety standards, and company policies.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2–3 years in a bar management or senior bartending role in an upscale, high-volume restaurant or cocktail program.
  • Strong expertise in classic and contemporary mixology, spirits, wine, beer, and current beverage trends.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate, mentor, and hold a team accountable.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail and an understanding of inventory and cost control.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Calm, professional, and solutions-focused under pressure.
  • Flexible availability including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
