<h3>Job Description</h3><p>Job Description<p><p><strong>Software International (SI)</strong> supplies technical talent to a variety of clients ranging from Fortune 100/500/1000 companies to small and mid-sized organizations in Canada/US and Europe.</p><p>We currently have a multiple, re-extendable, long term contract roles as a <strong>BI & ETL Tester - Hybrid </strong>with our global SAP consulting client, working onsite at large CPG/Entertainment client&#39;s office 2-3 days a week in dwontown, Toronto. This is a 6 month contract initially, but will be extended long term.</p><p><br /><strong>Role:</strong> <strong><strong><strong><strong>BI & ETL Tester - Hybrid</strong></strong></strong></strong></p><p><strong>Type:</strong> Contract</p><p><strong># of Roles</strong>: 1</p><p><strong>Duration: 9-12</strong> months to start + possible extensions</p><p><strong>Location: </strong>Toronto, ON - Hybrid, 2-3 days onsite in downtown Toronto<br /></p><p><strong>Rate:</strong> Open based on expectations as a C2C contractor</p><p><strong><br /></strong></p><p><strong>Overview</strong></p><p>We are seeking a skilled <strong>BI & ETL Tester</strong> to validate, analyze, and ensure the accuracy, performance, and reliability of data pipelines, BI reports, dashboards, and analytics solutions. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in <strong>data validation, SQL, ETL process testing</strong>, and working with modern data platforms.</p><p><strong>Key Responsibilities</strong></p><p><strong>1. ETL / Data Pipeline Testing</strong></p><ul><li>Validate end-to-end ETL workflows including <strong>data extraction, transformation, and loading</strong>.</li><li>Perform <strong>source-to-target data validation</strong>, record counts, reconciliation, schema checks, and transformation logic checks.</li><li>Test data ingestion from multiple sources (databases, files, SAP, cloud platforms).</li><li>Verify scheduling, dependencies, and error-handling processes in ETL jobs.</li><li>Conduct regression, functional, and sanity testing for data loads.</li></ul><p><strong>2. BI / Reporting Testing</strong></p><ul><li>Validate BI reports and dashboards for <strong>accuracy, formatting, filters, drill-downs, KPIs, and aggregations</strong>.</li><li>Compare visual outputs with backend data using SQL queries.</li><li>Test performance, data refresh cycles, row-level security, and report-level access.</li></ul><p><strong>3. SQL & Data Quality Validation</strong></p><ul><li>Write complex SQL queries to validate business rules, calculations, and data transformations.</li><li>Identify data issues, anomalies, and integrity gaps.</li><li>Collaborate with Data Engineers, BI Developers, and Data Analyst to resolve defects.</li></ul><p><strong>4. Test Planning & Execution</strong></p><ul><li>Create detailed <strong>test plans, test cases, test scenarios</strong>, and acceptance criteria.</li><li>Perform manual testing and assist in setting up <strong>automated testing frameworks</strong> (e.g., Python, PyTest, dbt tests).</li><li>Document defects in tools like <strong>JIRA</strong> and follow through to closure.</li><li>Participate in sprint planning, reviews, and Agile ceremonies.</li></ul><p><strong>Required Skills & Experience</strong></p><ul><li>510+ years of BI/ETL testing or QA experience.</li><li>Strong SQL skills (joins, window functions, aggregations, CTEs).</li><li>Experience testing ETL tools such as: Airflow</li><li>Experience with BI tools:</li><ul><li><strong>Power BI, SAP BO</strong>, etc.</li></ul><li>Understanding of data warehousing (Star/Snowflake schema, dimensions, facts).</li><li>Knowledge of cloud data platforms ( GCP is a plus).</li><li>Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodology.</li><li>Experience in defect management and test documentation tools.</li></ul><p><strong>Preferred Qualifications</strong></p><ul><li>Experience with SAP source systems (SAP ECC, S/4HANA, SAP BW, SAP IBP) for data validation.</li><li>Exposure to big data technologies (BigQuery).</li><li>Automation experience using Python or SQL-based frameworks.</li><li>Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines for data testing.</li><li>Experience with version control (Git).</li></ul><p><strong>Soft Skills</strong></p><ul><li>Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.</li><li>Excellent communication with business and technical teams.</li><li>Ability to work independently and manage multiple assignments.</li><li>Detail-oriented with a focus on data accuracy and quality.</li></ul></p></p>
