Business Development Manager

Our client is seeking a strategic and relationship-driven Business Development Manager to lead external business development efforts and promote the company's brand within the construction industry. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional with deep market knowledge, strong networking capabilities, and experience in proposal development and client engagement. This role is responsible for identifying new business opportunities, cultivating industry relationships, and supporting proposal development. The successful candidate will be a confident communicator and strategic thinker with a strong understanding of the construction landscape.

Your success will be defined by your ability to:

  • Identify and pursue short- and long-term project opportunities
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and industry partners
  • Lead or support proposal development, including RFQs and RFEOIs
  • Ensure proposals are accurate, client-focused, and aligned with evaluation criteria
  • Represent the company at industry events and networking functions
  • Maintain and update lead tracking systems and client interaction records
  • Collaborate with internal teams to align business development efforts with operational capacity
  • Provide strategic input into business plans and revenue growth strategies
  • Gather and share client feedback to improve performance and service delivery
  • Promote the company's brand, values, and project successes
  • Support health, safety, and quality initiatives in client communications
Your strengths include:
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical, business, or scientific field; Engineering degree is an asset
  • 7-10 years of relevant experience in business development, construction, or pre-construction
  • Experience in project or construction management is an asset
  • Accreditation such as P.Eng, ASET, or Gold Seal is preferred
  • Strong industry connections through local associations
  • Broad knowledge of construction types and market dynamics
  • Proficiency in MS Office, CRM systems (e.g., CIMS), and proposal tools (e.g., Toolbox)
  • Ability to read clients and tailor communication effectively
  • Strong presentation, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
