Job Description

THE ORGANIZATION

Our client, based in Edmonton, Alberta, is a privately held, market-leading SaaS company. The Company provides a best-in-class suite of enterprise software solutions for professional licensing and regulatory bodies.

Today, the Company is dedicated to helping regulators improve workflows and efficiency by delivering tailored software solutions that enhance services, strengthen compliance, and conserve resources. The company’s flagship product is a purpose-built regulatory management platform designed to meet the complex and high-accountability needs of regulators.

The Company’s software platform supports critical functions such as licensing, compliance, member and registrant management, conduct and discipline tracking, continuing competence, and reporting. Clients using the platform can expect a solution grounded in innovation, strong client-centricity, and a commitment to integrity and professionalism — enabling regulators to modernize operations while maintaining the standards and trust their mandates require.

The Company operates with a small, high-impact team and is widely regarded as a collaborative, fast-growing environment where individuals often wear multiple hats. Team members are encouraged to expand their skills across the full software development life cycle and engage directly with clients to ensure solutions are implemented effectively and create measurable value.

Driven by a culture grounded in collaboration, accountability, and excellence, the Company combines deep technical expertise with a strong understanding of regulatory environments to deliver solutions that support effective governance and professional oversight.

Mission: To help regulators improve workflows and efficiency by providing tailored software solutions that improve services and conserve resources.

THE OPPORTUNITY

This is a rare opportunity for an accomplished and values-driven individual to step into the Chief Executive Officer role at our client and lead the organization through its next chapter of growth, succeeding the Founder who has built a strong and respected business over more than three decades. With the support of new ownership and capital investment, the Company is at a meaningful inflection point — positioned to scale its impact, expand market presence, and accelerate product evolution. The CEO will have full oversight of the business and will report to the Board of Directors, accountable for executing the growth vision while ensuring the operational foundation (systems, processes, talent, and performance discipline) is in place. In parallel, this leader will provide strategic oversight to ensure the platform continues to evolve in alignment with customer expectations and the future demands of professional regulation.

RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

Strategic Leadership

  • Set and communicate a clear growth vision and strategic direction for the Company, building on its strong foundation in regulatory technology.
  • Lead the execution of strategic plans that drive revenue growth, customer expansion, and long-term value creation.
  • Stay ahead of industry, customer, and regulatory trends to identify opportunities, anticipate risks, and guide decision-making.

Operational Excellence

  • Provide full operational leadership across the business, ensuring strong execution in product delivery, customer success, implementation, support, and corporate functions.
  • Put the right systems, processes, and performance discipline in place to scale effectively and sustainably.
  • Build a culture of accountability, service excellence, and measurable results aligned to customer outcomes and business performance.

Product, Technology & Innovation

  • Provide strategic oversight of the product roadmap, ensuring continuous innovation and strong alignment to customer and market needs.
  • Partner with product and technical leaders to ensure quality, security, scalability, and delivery excellence across the platform.
  • Balance customer-driven enhancements with longer-term platform evolution and differentiation.

Financial & Business Performance

  • Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning to support growth priorities and capital deployment.
  • Monitor performance against targets and key metrics, taking corrective action as needed to drive profitability and operational discipline.
  • Guide pricing, resource allocation, and investment decisions to ensure scalable, sustainable growth.

Customer & Market Leadership

  • Champion a client-centric approach and strengthen the Company’s trusted reputation within the regulatory and professional licensing space.
  • Build strong relationships with key customers, partners, and stakeholders to deepen insight and accelerate growth opportunities.
  • Represent the Company externally to enhance brand visibility, credibility, and market positioning.

Talent & Culture

  • Lead and develop a high-performing team while preserving the collaborative, close-knit culture that has played a large role in the Company’s success.
  • Recruit, retain, and build a leadership depth and technical capability to support the next phase of growth.
  • Foster learning, engagement, and continuous improvement across the organization.

Governance, Risk & Board Partnership

  • Collaborate closely with the Board, providing transparent reporting and accountability to strategic and growth objectives.
  • Ensure strong governance, risk management, and internal controls.
  • Oversee key enterprise risks including operational, financial, cybersecurity, delivery, and reputational risk.

THE INDIVIDUAL

The successful candidate will bring a strong business mindset and proven leadership experience in the software industry, ideally with a technical or product-development orientation that enables effective decision-making across product strategy, delivery, customer success, and innovation. Equally important, the CEO will be a culture steward — building high trust, maintaining the collaborative “family” feel that has defined our client’s success to date, and fostering a team environment where accountability and growth can thrive together.

Education

  • Post-secondary education in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics or a related field is required.
  • An advanced degree (e.g., Master’s) is considered a strong asset but not required.

Experience

  • 10–15 years of progressive experience in a software/technology environment, ideally in a service-based and/or SaaS-enabled business with high customer interaction (implementation, delivery, customer success, support, ongoing partnership).

Competencies and Knowledge

Strategic Growth Leadership: Builds and executes a clear growth strategy aligned to Board priorities, translating market opportunities into scalable plans that drive revenue, customer expansion, and long-term value creation.

Product & Technology Stewardship: Provides informed oversight of product strategy and technical delivery, guiding roadmap decisions that balance customer needs, innovation, quality, security, and long-term platform evolution.

Customer-Centric Commercial Mindset: Leads with a strong service orientation, strengthening customer relationships and ensuring exceptional implementation and ongoing partnership that reinforces trust, retention, and reputation in a regulated environment.

Operational Excellence & Scale Discipline: Establishes the systems, processes, metrics, and team structure required to scale, driving execution rhythm, accountability, and operational performance without sacrificing agility.

People Leadership & Culture Stewardship: Builds high-trust, high-performance teams while preserving the collaborative “family feel,” coaching leaders through change and fostering a culture where accountability and growth thrive together.

COMPENSATION

A competitive compensation package awaits the successful candidate.
