Mackenzie Health’s two hospitals – Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital and Mackenzie Richmond Hill Hospital – each have a full-service emergency department, core services, specialized services, and an inpatient mental health program to provide our patients with the care they need. Our community-based locations and services continue to provide additional support to western York Region.

Position Overview

Mackenzie Health is seeking a full-time Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist. The Physician will work in consultation with the Chief of Psychiatry as well as the other physicians within the department. There is an on-call requirement. This physician role is accountable to the Chief of Psychiatry as well as the Program Leaders for clinical and operational management within the Psychiatry Program.

The physician must complete a full credentialing application and must have their appointment approved by the Board of Directors. The physician will be credentialed according to the terms specified in the Hospital By-laws.

Responsibilities and Accountability

As a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, the Physician must demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Assess patients to diagnose the nature and extent of mental health disorders.
  • Manage patients through the continuum of hospital care.
  • Order treatments, tests, and consults with specialty physicians and primary care physicians where necessary.
  • Prescribe, direct, and administer medications to treat various mental health and behavioral disorders.
  • Provide on call services.
  • Provide consultation on patients already admitted.
  • Prepare and submit case reports and summaries for Ministry of Health reporting criteria, as required.

Education – Certification – Licenses

  • Candidate must possess a Medical Degree (MD) and Fellowship in the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) in Psychiatry.
  • Registration with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario is required.
  • Completion of 2 years’ training or experience in child/adolescent psychiatry or credentialing by the Sub-Specialty Committee of the Royal College is preferred. Preferred candidates would possess 3 to 5 years’ experience.
