Canlan Sports is currently looking for a People & Culture Generalist (18 month contract) for our North York Head Office!

Salary Range: $65,000 - $70,000 per year.

This contract is intended to cover a maternity leave.

Job Summary

The People and Culture Generalist, reporting to the VP People & Culture, plays a crucial role in nurturing a positive work environment while fostering the growth and development of our diverse and talented workforce. You will be responsible for developing toolkits, managing employee relations in both unionized and non-unionized environments across North America, overseeing talent acquisition and retention efforts at the corporate level, and continuously improving the employee journey process.

This role will require a self-confident, creative, innovative thinker with strong organizational and time management skills and the ability to handle a variety of responsibilities. The role requires a can-do attitude, demonstrated regard for confidentiality, a high level of judgment, and the ability to solve problems independently.

Abilities, Attributes and Experience
  • Ability to perform as a trusted advisor, to lead with an understanding of how to build partnerships at all levels.
  • Knowledge of HR best practices and regulations, including the Employment Standards Act, Human Rights Legislation, and other governing bodies across all provinces and states.
  • Experienced in recruitment and selection, with an openness to new leading-edge approaches for attracting top-talent.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment and problem-solving skills in resolving HR matters.
  • Bias for action but shows tact, diplomacy, and discretion.
  • Exhibits high level of customer focus and service orientation.
  • Proven ability to work with and support a diverse employee population in North America.
  • Effective oral and written communication
  • Ability to develop and sustain cooperative working relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team player, and willingness to support other team members.
  • Ability to allocate one’s time effectively and work under pressure.
  • Ability to prioritize workload; multi-task as well as manage very detailed level project work.

  • Exhibit a willingness to provide hands-on tactical approach to both HR, Business Unit, and sports complex initiatives/ activities.
Qualifications and Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and HR diploma or designation
  • 2-3 years of professional experience in human resources
  • CHRP designation considered an asset.
  • Good understanding of MS Office tools (Outlook, Excel)
