Physician Assistant - Temporary Full-Time


Base pay range: CA$46.78/hr – CA$57.86/hr


Position Summary


The Physician Assistant (PA) at CHEO works alongside the physician in the Emergency Department to provide care to patients requiring these services. The PA integrates the skills and knowledge from medical practice and functions both autonomously and in collaboration with physicians and other health‑care providers to manage patients in a comprehensive manner. Working closely with the Emergency Interdisciplinary team, the PA will participate in the management of patients presenting to the Emergency Department and will be involved in teaching and medication/treatment management.


Qualifications



  • Graduate of a recognized Physician Assistant Program (Essential)

  • Previous experience in a related field (Essential)

  • Current appropriate level of life‑support training (e.g., BCLS) (Essential)

  • Experience in Pediatric Emergency Medicine (Essential)

  • Ability to function collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team and practice in a self‑directed manner (Essential)

  • Demonstrated excellent leadership and organizational skills: ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, ability to participate as a member of an interdisciplinary team, demonstrates creativity, innovation, flexibility and initiative, sound conflict resolution skills and problem‑solving abilities (Essential)

  • Sound crisis management skills (Essential)

  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the job (Essential)

  • Bilingualism (English and French) (Preferred)

  • Registration as a Physician Assistant in Ontario with CPSO (College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario) (Essential)

*Please note you will be represented by the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU). The position will be based in Ottawa; location may change at any time at the discretion of the employer. All OPSEU members shall be granted an interview upon passing the pre‑screening. Pre‑screening may include testing.


*Effective March 29, 2021, CHEO will conduct a more comprehensive pre‑screening and evaluation process. This may include a written test, practical exam or other assessment. All candidates who meet the essential and preferred qualifications may be tested.


*Bilingualism (French/English) will be validated by a language proficiency assessment conducted by a third‑party provider. Candidates must meet the minimum linguistic profile prior to hire.
