Job Description:

Reporting to the Manager of Planning and Accommodation, the Planning Student supports the Planning and Assessment team in the review of development-related applications and School Board planning activities. The role is responsible for leading the digitization and cataloging of development application and school historical records in accordance with established protocols, as well as assisting with the conversion and georeferencing of school floorplan CAD files into ArcGIS Pro to support planning analysis. Additional responsibilities include providing general customer service by responding to inquiries, communicating progress and outcomes of assigned projects through formal presentations to senior leadership, and performing other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities:

  • Support the Planning and Assessment team in the review of development-related applications.
  • Lead the digitization and cataloging of development application and school historical records as it relates to School Board Planning in accordance with established protocols.
  • Convert and georeference school floorplan CAD files into ArcGIS Pro by applying appropriate coordinate systems, aligning drawings with parcel and aerial base data, and preparing GIS‑ready outputs to support planning analysis.
  • Communicate progress, results, and lessons learned from assignments through a formal presentation to Executive Staff at the end of the work term.
  • Provide excellent customer service by responding to general inquiries.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled in post-secondary education in a Planning, Geography, or a related discipline program.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the Planning Act or other relevant statutory documents, Provincial Planning Policy, Education Act, and other planning processes, is an asset.
  • Familiarity with, or understand the use of, Geographic Information System (ArcGIS) and Computer-Aided Design (AutoCAD) software.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, such as Word, Excel, Outlook, & PowerPoint.
  • Must be a resident of Ontario during the term of employment.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada and have a valid Canadian Social Insurance Number (SIN) for the full duration of the term of employment.
  • Must have valid driver's licence and use of a vehicle.

Location: Father Kyran Kennedy Catholic Education Centre 90 Mulberry Street, Hamilton, Ontario, L8N 3R9

Hours of Work: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily

Salary: $20.00/hour plus 4% vacation
