This position is within the Hydropower and Dams market sector of our Energy group. The market sector specializes in hydropower and dam projects (development, refurbishment) as well as dam safety. We work in collaboration with clients in the public and private sectors on innovative projects, enabling our team members to prove their expertise and train the next generation of passionate professionals.
To meet our growth challenges, WSP is currently seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer, Hydropower and Dams to join our National Electrical Team in one of our Quebec offices – Montreal, Laval, Brossard, Quebec City, Levis, Sherbrooke, Chicoutimi or Trois-Rivières, Toronto, Edmonton or Calgary.

What you can expect to do here
- Participate in the design, integration and commissioning of control and protection systems for hydropower generating stations and dams, including industrial programmable logic controllers, protection relays, human-machine interfaces and communication networks.
- Develop control diagrams, control logic and sequencing of control systems for both major and balance of plant (BoP) equipment.
- Select, configure and coordinate protection relays for generators, transformers, lines and BoP equipment.
- Design BoP equipment (such as low and medium voltage and AC/DC distribution systems, transformers, diesel-powered generators) and controls for mechanical hoisting equipment for hydropower generating stations and dams.
- Conduct electrical studies (power flow, short circuit, lighting, load, etc.).
- Contribute to the preparation of plans, specifications, reports and other technical documents for electrical, control and other BoP equipment as part of dams and hydraulic and hydropower structures.
- Ensure designs comply with guidelines, code requirements, regulations and other reference documents.
- Support project managers in technical planning, oversight and coordination of projects.
- Work closely with technical teams already in place to coordinate engineering work.
- Supervise engineering resources, including technicians and other engineers, during project delivery.
- Mentor the team, sharing experience and best practices.
- Oversee quality assurance for various deliverables.
What you’ll bring to WSP
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or any other equivalent qualification.
- Minimum of ten (10) years’ relevant experience.
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in electrical system design for hydropower generating stations and dams (required).
- OIQ membership and the title of engineer (required).
- ASP Construction card (the position requires occasional travel).
- Sense of initiative, proactive attitude, resourcefulness, autonomy and attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a team.
- Versatility and a broad range of knowledge are assets.
- Bilingualism is required, as you will participate in national initiatives requiring communication with French and English-speaking colleagues and clients.
