Job Description

Project Manager – Automation (Manufacturing & Integration Projects)

We are seeking a high-performing and proactive Project Manager with a strong background in industrial automation, robotics, and plant floor integration. This role is ideal for someone with 10+ years of experience in manufacturing environments, particularly in automotive or industrial automation, who can manage complex, technical projects from kickoff to installation with confidence and clarity.

The successful candidate will thrive in fast-paced, on-site project environments, and must possess strong organizational, customer-facing, and problem-solving skills. They should be comfortable taking ownership of a project once it's handed off from pre-sales and coordinating cross-functional teams through design, build, install, and commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the execution of automation, robotics, and material handling projects, including conveyor systems, robotic cells, and control system upgrades
  • Serve as the primary liaison between internal engineering teams, suppliers, and external customers
  • Create and manage detailed project schedules, budgets, and resource plans using Microsoft Project and Excel
  • Monitor project KPIs, labor, material costs, and timelines to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery
  • Coordinate installation activities on-site, ensuring minimal disruption to production and effective stakeholder communication
  • Handle unexpected issues during installs with a cool head and clear leadership
  • Lead regular project meetings with customers, including engineers, managers, and directors
  • Communicate technical information effectively and assertively in high-pressure situations
  • Collaborate with team members on electrical drawings, CAD models, and robot tooling reviews
  • Support post-install activities and ensure customer satisfaction

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of project management experience in automation, robotics, or manufacturing environments
  • Prior hands-on experience in maintenance, plant engineering, or industrial services is highly preferred
  • Strong background in electrical, mechanical, or controls engineering is an asset
  • Proven ability to manage high-value, multi-disciplinary projects from kickoff to close
  • Familiarity with industrial robotics, PLC systems, integration, and material handling equipment
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project, and the broader Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with ERP or SAP-like systems for tracking and managing resources
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and interpret CAD files for basic measurements and planning
  • Must be confident in leading discussions with senior client stakeholders and making field-level decisions
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to manage competing priorities under tight deadlines
  • Willingness and flexibility to travel based on project needs (approximately 30–50%)

Nice to Have

  • Exposure to packaging or food automation systems
  • Understanding of supply chain, logistics, and installation coordination
  • Basic experience with robot tooling, fixture design, or integration work

Work Environment & Travel

This is an onsite-focused role with some remote project planning flexibility. Travel is required based on the needs of the project. While most work may be local for months at a time, certain projects may involve travel to the U.S. or internationally (e.g., New York, Michigan). Candidates should be prepared for moderate to infrequent travel.
