This opportunity is with our Good Shepherd - Mental Health Crisis Worker Barrett Centre
How You Will Make an Impact
The Barrett Centre provides crisis intervention supports to all those aged 16+ of any gender identity. The program provides services including 16 short-term respite beds, in-person and telephone support, information and referral; crisis assessment, counseling and support; symptom stabilization for individuals experiencing a mental health crisis.
- Be compassionate, hospitable, and non-judgmental
- Conduct risk and suicide assessment, crisis intervention, de-escalating strategies
- Determine care planning & crisis counseling
- Continuous monitoring and evaluation; individual support
- Provide linkage and community referral; advocacy; collaboration and coordination with other service providers
- Be a part of shared hands-on responsibility for program operation
- Staff are also provided the opportunity for training and education, co-facilitation of programming and groups, and collaboration with other community partners and co-workers
- Responsible for participating in Good Shepherd's Health and Safety programs, procedures and work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations to minimize risk to clients, staff and others as well as to the property of the Good Shepherd
What You'll Bring to Our Team
- Demonstrate a commitment to the mission values of Good Shepherd with sensitivity to the issues related to mental illness, addictions, poverty, homelessness and dual diagnosis
- Related post-secondary education with a degree in social work, nursing or related fields is required
- 5 years' experience working with adults in mental health and addictions preferred
- Previous experience in crisis work is an asset
- Must have an ability to adapt interventions to diverse populations
- Fluency in a 2nd language is an asset
- CPR certification or willingness to be certified is required
- Committed to anti-racist/anti-oppressive practice and to the mission and values of Good Shepherd
- Demonstrated understanding of workplace health and safety practices and understanding of an employee's responsibility under current legislation.
- Must be willing to work twelve hour rotating shifts and alternate weekends
