Senior SAP ABAP Technical Lead
We are in search of a seasoned Senior SAP ABAP Technical Lead to oversee SAP technical operations and guide development activities within our SAP ecosystem. This includes managing SAP S/4HANA, SAP BTP (ABAP Cloud & CAP), CDS-based development, and ensuring adherence to Clean Core principles. Additionally, the role encompasses handling ChaRM-driven change management, ATC code quality governance, and utilizing Custom Code Analyzer (CCA) for upgrade readiness and technical debt management.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Operations
· Supervise daily SAP technical operations to ensure stability and timely resolution of critical issues.
· Provide leadership and coaching to developers on modern ABAP, CDS, RAP, and cloud extension patterns.
· Manage SPDD/SPAU modifications to ensure smooth adjustments during upgrades and support packs.
· Review and implement SAP Notes with proper impact assessment.
· Apply and enforce Clean Core principles to ensure scalable and upgrade-friendly solutions.
Development & Architecture
· Design and develop solutions using ABAP for S/4HANA (HANA-optimized), Core Data Services (CDS) including annotations, authorizations, and performance tuning, SAP BTP ABAP Environment, and CAP (Cloud Application Programming Model).
· Build RAP applications, OData services, and cloud-based extensions.
· Conduct detailed code reviews and guide the team on performance, security, and maintainability.
· Ensure adherence to ABAP Cloud development methodology and best practices.
Change & Release Management (ChaRM)
· Utilize SAP ChaRM to manage transport lifecycles and ensure proper documentation, sequencing, and approvals.
· Lead coordination of changes across DEV, QA, and PROD systems.
· Support retrofit and dual-track development as needed.
· Maintain transport governance aligned with audit and compliance requirements.
Code Quality, Governance & Upgrade Readiness
· Enforce development standards through ATC (ABAP Test Cockpit) checks for performance, security, Eclipse-based ABAP best practices, and cloud readiness/RAP compliance.
· Use SAP Custom Code Analyzer (CCA) to assess custom code impact during upgrades and S/4HANA conversions, identify obsolete or non-compliant code, and recommend remediation strategies.
· Collaborate with Basis and architecture teams to maintain a clean, efficient, and upgrade-ready custom code portfolio.
Project & Solution Support
· Serve as a technical lead for ongoing enhancements and project implementations.
· Collaborate with functional leads to convert business requirements into robust technical designs.
· Support integrations between S/4HANA, BTP, and external applications.
· Provide estimates, feasibility analysis, and technical risk assessments.
Required Qualifications
· 8+ years of SAP ABAP development experience, including classical ABAP and ABAP Cloud implementation.
· Strong hands-on experience with CDS Views, SQL performance tuning, and S/4HANA data modeling.
· Experience using ATC checks for code quality governance and Custom Code Analyzer (CCA) for upgrade and readiness assessments.
· Strong experience with SAP ChaRM for transport and change management.
· Experience with SPDD/SPAU adjustments and upgrade lifecycle management.
· Practical experience with SAP BTP ABAP environment and CAP development.
· Deep understanding of Clean Core, extensibility options, RAP, and ABAP Cloud methodology.
· Proficiency in Joule for developers to enhance productivity and leverage AI-driven insights.
· Ability to analyze and implement SAP Notes.
