Salary: $90,000 – $115,000 (range). Salary is only one component of a holistic, comprehensive and competitive offering; eligible for annual bonus plan, leave of absence top‑up, generous vacation time, personal days, premium free benefits and pension plan.


Hybrid Work Environment: 2 days per week in office or 15 hours per week in office, otherwise remote. Job Overview


This opportunity is part of Wawanesa’s Core Application Delivery team. Responsibilities include maintaining, supporting and enhancing business systems, applications and integrations for internal Wawanesa employees and external applications. You will work within a small agile scrum team focused on rapid design, development and implementation of application changes, with a passion for continuous improvement and test‑driven development. Experience in client/server application design and development, Java and ideally Guidewire (Gosu) is preferred.


Job Responsibilities



  • Design, develop, and test software.

  • Prepare technical specifications from requirements.

  • Estimate and track progress of assigned work to ensure successful completion of developer assignments.

  • Maintain operation of business systems and applications.

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve application incidents.

  • Participate in planning activities.

  • Create and update relevant documentation.

  • Improve adherence to established practices, processes, and guidelines.

  • Keep current with relevant technologies.

  • Mentor other Application Developers.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications



  • Completion of a Post‑secondary degree or diploma in software development or equivalent experience.

  • Four years of practice in application development and support, building software using current programming languages and relational database systems.

  • Experience with Java; Guidewire/Gosu development experience is considered an asset.

  • Detail oriented with analytical and problem‑solving skills.

  • Excellent communication skills, clear and concise.

  • Strong planning and organizing skills, able to prioritize and multi‑task.

  • Leadership skills to maintain high team morale through encouragement and coaching.

  • Decision‑making skills, able to direct team members to achieve goals through clear instruction.

  • Experience using software development tools such as JIRA, Confluence, source code management and TeamCity is an asset.

  • Experience with Unix, Windows, Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, Java; certifications in relevant technology such as Guidewire or processes are an asset.

  • Knowledge and experience in the insurance industry is an asset.
