Staff Accountant – Public Accounting
Location: Brampton, ON Work

About the Opportunity
Our Brampton-based client, a public accounting firm, is seeking a Staff Accountant to join their growing practice on a 6-month contract with strong potential for permanent hire. This role offers hands-on exposure to a variety of assurance, tax, and compilation engagements, working closely with Managers and Partners across a diverse client portfolio.
This opportunity is ideal for someone early to mid-career who is pursuing their CPA designation and looking to build a strong foundation in public accounting.
Key Responsibilities
Tax Compliance & Preparation
- Prepare T1 personal income tax returns, including employment, self-employed, and investment income
- Prepare T2 corporate income tax returns for owner-managed businesses
- Assist with tax planning and year-end tax filings
- Review CRA correspondence and assist with responses and follow-ups
Financial Reporting & Engagements
- Prepare Compilation Engagements (formerly Notice to Reader) including working papers and financial statements
- Assist with engagement review, including file preparation and testing
- Prepare adjusting journal entries and year-end working papers
- Draft financial statements and supporting schedules
Accounting & Client Support
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts
- Prepare bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations
- Assist clients with bookkeeping clean-up and year-end adjustments
- Support Partners and Managers with ad hoc accounting and client projects
About You
- Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline
- 1–3 years of experience in public accounting (co-op or internship experience considered)
- Exposure to T1 and T2 tax preparation
- Working knowledge of Compilation Engagements (NTR) and ASPE
- Strong Excel skills; experience with CaseWare, TaxPrep, Profile, or similar software is an asset
- Able to manage multiple files and deadlines in a client-service environment
- Actively pursuing or planning to pursue the CPA designation
